gives Hawaii Information Sharing Capability for Health Crises

WASHINGTON – February 14, 2006-

The implementation by the Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH) of Global Secure Response Manager™, a role-based, multimedia alerting and document management platform for emergency preparedness and response, will enhance Hawaii's ability to respond to public health emergencies. HDOH contracted with Global Secure Systems to provide Response Manager, a secure network for issuing alerts and other communications across the health department and government agencies in response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Information Network (PHIN) requirement to implement an alerting tool.

"Response Manager provides the capability to look beyond just meeting the CDC PHIN guidelines, and addresses many of our planned strategic activities," said Dwight Bartolome, Chief of Health Information Systems Office, HDOH. "We now have a coordinated alerting tool for the Department of Health, and state agency Public Information Officers (PIOs). The system also has the capability to provide alerts and critical information to the medical community in the event of a crisis or outbreak."

In a recent HDOH test of Response Manager against the traditional 'phone tree' approach, Response Manager completed its task before the seven tier phone tree system reached tier two. Furthermore, Response Manager succeeded in reaching a majority of the network. Bartolome added that "by using Response Manager, it has significantly improved the previous contact metrics using the phone tree."
